1998 Oldsmobile Silhouette Repair Question

An item on the front of the motor is frozen-some kind of pump-on top left of engine-what is this item?
It is driven by the serpentine belt-is not an idler pulley, it has a couple of pipes coming out of it running it looks like to the head--need to know what this item is so we can replace it--it is locked up. Thanks so much for your help--

Sounds like you're describing an air pump. It is also called an air injection pump. They do lock up often. Look at one at your local auto parts stores or look it up on rockauto.com to see if it looks like what you need.
