1998 nissan altima louder engine noises

Starting yesterday my car began making a really loud noise when it is accelerating, much louder than normal. it has never done this before, and only bagan yesterday. I never accelerated past 30 mph, but everytime I hit the gas pedal, it sounded like a race car revving. It was also louder than normal even when it was just idleing. Someone suggested it could need an oil chenge, and it is overdue. Could this be the problem. It is a 1998 Nissan Altima.

Without checking out what is causing the noise it is not possible to to determine what is causing it and I don't think it is the oil change that is causing it. There are many possibilities and exhaust leakages and beltings could be on the list. Get it checked first and if oil change is due, it should be done.
