I have a mercury tracer 1998. The car will start, but will not go in gear. When the problem started I saw liquid come out. What could be wrong with it?

You may be very low on transmission oil, check the level and if low inspect for any leaks, normally at the pan gasket, front seal and oil cooler lines, start here.
