Air ride supsention 98 lincoln cont

I was told that the codes from my 98 lincoln cont. said that the rear level sensors are bad? The rear pass bag has small pin hole in it and goes all the way down over night but was leveling fine when started up. I had a door ajar problem and severe cold weather and the compressor is coming on but not lifting the back end. When the guy took off the line to the compressor it was fine. He hooked it back up and the back end raised up. The car was in the warmed up for about an hour as well. What do you think happened why it is working now. He also said that the air ride that is on my car can not be converted to regular shocks. He said the old design had by pass valve and they could? Please let me know if this sounds about right and what would you do in this case.
