98' vdp idle problem

My 98' Jag runs great. However, at idle the rpms seem to pulse ever so slightly. At night its a problem because the lights actually flash in a rythmic pulse with the rpms. I'm guessing maybe 50rpms. Any idea's also what should the idle rpms be and is there a way to adjust them up slightly. Thanks for your help. P.S. Had it to a Jag dealer and he was scratching his head. After replacing some corroded cables he said the lights are brighter but still flash at idle. He wanted to TRY a new alternator but I think if it was the alt. codes would show up. The check engine light is NOT on and it's not spitting out any codes. Any ideas. Thanks Mike

alternator may be issue but you'd think it would show voltage irregularities(spikes) under tester scrutiny.
