Ford Taurus Fuel pump Problem

Recently my car wouldn't start after warming up when I shut it off briefly. It will start right up when it is cold, but now if it is warmed up, it will crank over but not start.....I suspect it is either a bad fuel pump or fuel regulator....it will cost about $100 just to have it diagnosed.
F.Y.I....not sure if this is relevant, but the first time it wouldn't start was after filling up the gas tank...or shortly afterwards.....lately however, after shutting off the car, after driving a long distance, I test it by turning it back on and it has been starting up ok......
