1998 Ford Ka Repair Question

Engine ticks buy won't start
1997 ford ka my car has been stood a year an up until halfway through it was started then ran out of petrol an not started since til recently when it has had petrol new battery and spark plugs and pressed the fuel reset switch so know its not that. The engine ticks but wont start any ideas please?

If you're talking about clicking instead of ticking -check the battery connections and at the starter motor side,also check the starter relay and ignition switch
