My 98 ford escort will not start why the battery and alternater is new. Before it went out the car was idleing hi according to a mechanic.

Will the starter motor crank? If not, check the starter circuit. In the diagram, black wire is hot all the time. Black wire with red tracer goes hot with key in the crank position. Is wired through the clutch switch. Any testing at the starter, make sure tranny is in neutral and a functional e-brake is set.

If there is a problem with wiring circuit, somewhere, replacing parts won't fix it.
