Dodge Ram Neutral safety switch Problem

Just purchased a 1998 dodge ram 1500, 5.9, not running, but found the problem. the plug that goes on the neutral safety switch is bad, and the wiring to the plug has been burnt about a foot back, which someone wrapped with electrical tape. I know this is the problem, but how do I fix it?

Cut the plug and enough wire off a truck in a salvage yard. Splice the wires, solder them, and seal them with heat-shrink tubing.
