The idle air control motor is located on the throttle body and once it is replaced the vehicle's computer should automatically detect it, no programming needed. Here is a guide to help walk you through the steps and a diagrams below to show you where the IAC valve is on your car.

Check out the diagrams (Below). Please let us know what happens.

THe only part that makes sense is the idle air control valve. Regardless, if it is still doing it, have you checked for vacuum leaks?

But old idle sensor back on does good at times [idles at 800 rpm] but goes from 800 to 1100 then back down. Some times when you let it set for a day or two it starts up fine then dies if you dont keep your foot on the gas for about a minute. The only code is idle air control system. Can you help

Hi yes it certainly seems to be an iac sensor. If you look inside the bottom of the sensor the end that goes inside the throttle body. Can you see any carbon that may be stopping pintle to fully retract. If so you can clean this with some carb kleen. Or replace the iac sensor

Try this with new one on truck normal temp eng idleing unplug sensor and plug back in while it is running the new sensor has to be reconized by the pcm in order for it to relearn the desired idle.

You can also manually trigger a relearning procedure. If you disconnect the cables leading to your vehicle's battery, the computer's source of power, and leave them disconnected for at least half an hour, you have essentially turned off your vehicle's computer and forced it to reboot. After the computer reboots, it will relearn your vehicle's system parameters by running a new diagnostic check as you drive.

Sometimes while driving the engine temperature will go too high. This happens when the idle speed suddenly goes to 900rpms and it stays there. Normal operanting rpms, are 600. I've replaced the idle controll valve, air temp, sensor, throtle position sensor. With no solution to my problem. Any suggestions?

Maybe there's a problem with the coolant temperature sensor stuck in open loop mode giving fuel when not needed and raising the idle at the same time. Also check for vacuum leaks.

Both of those seem highly unlikely to me. I would say it is likely a vacuum leak from the brake booster. When you hit your brakes, the vacuum is coming from the booster and causing the SUV to stop running. Get under the hood and have someone hit the brakes as it's idling and listen for a loud hissing sound from the booster.

Engine Performance problem
1998 Dodge Durango V8 Four Wheel Drive Automatic

Ok someone please confirm that this guy is trying to rip off my wife.
!998 dodge durango would not start. I am not home so she had it towed to a local garage. $60 for the tow is not a bad deal.
They called her today and told her the "Idle control motor" is bad and it will be $300 to replace it plus $60 for the towing.
I replaced this valve (I have not heard it called a motor before) about 2 years ago. The valve is $47 from NAPA and there is one plug and two screw that mount it. It is in the open on the side of the throttle body. Does $300 sound like a rip off to you or am I just not seeing this right?
Thanks
