Truck is a 98 3500 dually 454 5 speed. Iv put new starters on it and new flywheel. Still grinds. If you drive it every day it fires right off but if it sets over a day it won't start until you pull start it.

They don't make shims for these new starters. I tryed shims from a older starter it made the starterror gear stick in the fly wheel.

DO YOU THINK THE GRINDING IS POSSIBLY RELATED TO A WEAK BATTERY ISSUE AS YOU MENTIONED AT THE START?

HAVE YOU HAD YOUR BATTERY(S) FULLY TESTED AT A POPULAR AUTO PARTS STORE?

It is a bale Bed truck with a electric over hydraulic bed. I just put two new interstate batterys on it (biggest I could get). The main issue is it won't start after it has set for a day or two. The only way to get it started is to pull it. Then it will fire as soon as you hit the key.
