started to overheat yesterday, did the same thing today?

my 1998 chevy cav rs started to overheat yesterday, did the same thing today. the check gauges light goes on, but there are no other warning lights that go on or that are on. coolant levels are where they should be. thoughts?! i do need an oil change, could this be the culprit?

low on oil would not cause your motor to overheat. verify your fans are running.. they are located between the front end of the car and the motor. just open the hood and look down. start the engine and let it warm up to normal operating temp. see if the fans are running if not, if they are report back also and i will help.
