1997 nissan sentra,engine goes off when attempting to move the car

Check for a clogged fuel filter. (hook up pressure gauge and turn key to on/engine off. Measure pressure. Should be 39-45 psi. Then start motor and place in drive with parking brake set and front wheels off the ground. The pressure should not drop. If it does, you have a clogged filter)
