Around 40-45 mph a noise starts in the dash.

At around 40-45 mph a clicking noise, similar to a card clicking on a bicycle wheel, starts in the dash area. As the speed goes up so does the frequency of the noise. While slowing down the frequency slows also and at around 40-45 mph it suddenly stops. On the highway with a faster acceleration speed, the noise didn't start and stop till around 50mph.

Could it be coming from the speedo?

I don't know. That was my first thought, then I thought, it is digital. And the noise sounds like it is closer to the center of the dash (left to right.

Digital won't make the noise. Sounds like it could be a relay.

I may be wrong. There is a speedometer cable on ebay that says it will fit a 97 lincoln towncar.

That is possible but not for a digital dash
