GMC Sonoma Noise Problem

97 GMC Sonoma - grinding noise coming from area of the distributor - My 1997 V6 GMC Sonoma is making a grinding noise from what sounds like from the area of the distributor. Grinding noise can only be heard from inside the cab with vehicle at idle or in gear and not moving. Replaced the distributor and the noise is still there. Engine performance is not as good as it was before my mechanic did the following repairs: (1) replaced front transmission seal (2) replaced front pump gasket (3) replaced input shaft bushing (4) torque converter repair sleeve (5) replaced rear main seal and oil pan gasket. When I got the truck back is when I noticed the noise, wasn't there before. I need input on where the noise might be coming from.
