Explorer XLT 1997vin E 4 L engine w/1998 r55 transmission flywheel need spacer to make connect torque coverter?

1998 explorer XLT vin e w/r55 automatic trans. changed engine (1997 vin e.
trans.torque converter won't connect (about 1/2")to flywheel without pulling torque too far forward. Does the 97engine need or should have a spacer between the flywheel and the crank end?

You sure its stabbed in correctly and not hanging up on the pilot bearing

Hmmmm-Auto could be the input shaft is not sitting correctly in the TC-

Yes, it was installed properly, 2 times, to make sure.
