Transmission not shifting correctly?

I was driving and all of the sudden my expedition would not shift into third gear. All it does is rev but wont accelerate. I went slow and parked it. I turned the overdrive off and it shifts just fine. It is an automatic and I am wondering if I need to replace the transmission or can I fix it without replacing the entire thing. It is very costly. Any thoughts?

This is typical when the turbine shaft speed sensor goes out or is off we should run the codes by using this guide while checking out the sensor which is in the diagrams below.

Check out the diagrams (Below). Please let us know what happens.

I had the transmission replaced and the guy that installed it said it was not shifting because the computer had to be reset. So I looked on YouTube and it said to reset the PCM so I did and it is still not shifting. What is wrong?

Good evening.

If he is a repair shop, he should have re flashed the TCM. Removing a battery cable does nothing. That is not a reset. He had the battery disconnected when he did the job.

It may have to be re flashed or programmed which requires a scan tool with access to Ford web site to download the current version for the truck.

It could also be that the transmission may be the reason it is not shifting as well.

Mr. Transmission told me though I replaced the transmission it should not have to be flashed that the transmission is not the kind that has to be flashed. It will cost me $90.00 to be flashed at another shop that does it. What exactly do you think I should do. I am trying to do it right my speedometer does not work also so could it also be the speed sensor?

If the speed sensor is not working then it will not shift.

Is this a new or used transmission? What was the original reason you replaced the transmission?

The issue with the speedometer needs to be repaired first before doing anything.

Also, I checked at AutoZone just to see what their scan would say and it said B1342 ECU malfunction. What does that mean? Should I start from here?

That code is the air suspension control module. Nothing to do with your issue.

Start with having them find out why the speedometer is not working.

A used transmission and before I had any problems the flywheel was bad and my father let someone he knew fix it and that is when the problems started. It would reverse but not move in drive so I had it replaced.

Okay, I would have the speedometer diagnosed and repaired. If that does not fix it then you got a bad transmission.

Any repair shop could do this repair.

What about the shop that installed the transmission? Did they look at it for you?

Let us ask you one more thing. From the looks of it I may be stuck with this transmission the guy that installed it a good mechanic and he did not say nothing was wrong or broken when I took it to him, but said if it is the transmission could I drain it an use some Lucas in it after I get speedometer fixed or should I flash it first then try that?

No, do not add any additives. They do nothing and will only cause the valve body to not work properly. Just change the oil/filter in the transmission and use new fluid.

Speedometer reads way too fast. Sets code 1270. Unhooked harness on transverse case still shows speed way off. What is making speedometer way off? Scan tool shows speed way off too.

If you got stuck in mud/ice, snow and wheels spun that is what sent this code. Reset the PCM or erase codes, auto parts can do this if you do not have a scanner. Then see if it is okay then. If not it may be a bad speed sensor.

Sounds like it is in limp mode. Are there no other codes? If not then check harness for full engagement and maybe put some dielectric compound on it for better contact. Also, I am assuming you have checked fuses under hood and have good connection at output speed sensor. It may be a transmission problem like a valve body.
