1997 Ford Escort acting up

Hello my problem is my ford escort lx starts and drives but when I stop at a red light it starts vibrating and runs rough and shutters and stalls it does it in drive but when I put it in neutral it won't stall I checked vacuum lines, pcv, I changed the air filter no check engine light I need some serious help

Your engine has a misfire. How long since the spark plugs were replaced?

Lets not waste brain power on the "what elses" until we've ruled out the "most likelies". You won't like my list of other things that can cause misfires. Even if there is some other cause, with new spark plugs you'll know where you're starting from. If spark plugs solve the problem, you will have saved the time and expense of searching for some other cause that didn't exist.
