Could you please give me some ideas to fixing my 1997 Dodge Van?

My Dodge Van will not start in park on the 1st try. I have to shift it into drive or neutral and then back to park to make it start.

MAYBE YOUR NEUTRAL SAFETY SWITCH?

THIS THING IS DESIGNED SO THAT YOUR VEHICLE WILL NOT START IN FORWARD OR REVERSE GEARS

I PLUGGED IN RAM I500 W/ A 5.2 LITER INTO THE AUTOZONE LINK FOR LACK OF THE REST OF YOUR VEHICLE'S INFO

THEY DO MESS UP SOMETIMES

IT MAY ALSO JUST BE OUT OF ADJUSTMENT OR SOMETHING MAY BE WRONG WITH WHATEVER MECHANICAL ACTIVATES IT
