1997 Dodge Dakota Repair Question

Dodge Dakota Dealer Problem
Truck has a 3.9 magnum.was auto.last owner switch to a 5 speed.now its only reving to 3500-4000rpm and drops to 12-1500 after you go up the road about 100feet.I tried a computer out of a 5 speed but it does the same thing.id just take it to a dealer, but I dont have the money
