1997 Dodge Dakota running hot

Been running hot after water pump replaced. I can turn on AC an it cools down an stays kinda warm but not over jot. No water in oil now I'm getting white smoke from tailpipe like cat. Convert or is stopped up. Please help

Check coolantlevel then have pressure tested for a head gasket leak. Check to see if cooling fan is coming on when heating up without a/c may not be.

The coolant is fine. The AC works. It just started this after water pump was changed. The guy that drove it before me got it hot an put something in radiator.
