What would cause the engine to rev and then stall ?

My 97 chevy truck (5.7L) starts easily revs to 2800 rpm for about 5 seconds and dies. It has plenty of gas but the wires at the coil (3 wire connector) seem to be a possible problem, Could this be a bad ignition coil or what ??

could be a coil or connection. but check your fuel pressure and check for a vacuum leak as well
