1997 Chevrolet Lumina Repair Question

4th wheel gear driving
When I put my 1997 chevy Tahoe in 4th wheel gear it make a puttering sound and shakes pretty bad. When I put it 2nd wheels gear it make the same sound but does not shake what could this be?
