1997 Buick Regal Repair Question

Why does it sound like an airplane taking off?
Started about 5days ago, from 20mph on up the whirr increases in pitch. at idle no sound. checked tires; rotated tires; no play in wheel bearings noted. any ideas?

The wheel bearings can be noisey and ging bad without any play.They only get loose when they get really bad.Do you have a floor jack and jack stands?
