Hi there,

My vw polo has developed a strange fault. I drove through a deep puddle and stalled the car in a panic. It then wouldnt start for a while. I left it for some time then dried out put some wd-40 in the distributor cap to remove more water. After a while it started fine and I managed to get it home ok.

Since then, it will only start in first gear. In neutral the starter motor makes an odd whizzing sound, like it's not engaging properly. Once in first gear, it will start fine.

please help!
