1996 Volkswagen Jetta wont start

My 96 vw jetta gls wont start, it was fine then every so often it wouldn't start but now it just wont start period. I noticed that it would only start when the dash lights (gas light, seat belt, brake, etc.) Came on when I first turn the key now they do not turn on and the car shows no signs of starting.

Check that the battery terminals are clean and tight and check that the main ecu and engine fuse is tight in the holder, this sounds like an electrical problem caused by a poor connection.
