Hi,

I drive a 2.0 mk5 golf 2006, the engine management light has been on for some time now. When I first took it to my mechanic he stated it needed a new EGR valve but would be ok to drive without replacing I then took it back to my mechanic after 8months for a service, he then told me that I needed a new throttle body.

This past couple of weeks it hasn't been starting 1st time, if left for a couple of hours it starts eventually. When I try to start it, it flashes up saying STOP oil fluid too low. I have now took it to a spark who has advised it needs a new brain because it has been water damaged. When I asked if this would take off the management light he informed me no that is a different fault all together, i'm confused and would be grateful for some advise.

If it was already established that you needed an EGR then you'd still need to fix that. As for the throttle body, it may not need that. I'd fix the ECM first and then see what codes come back and address them as they come

What's the engine code? BPY?

2.0L Turbo engine? No EGR on that engine.

Yeah its a 2006 2.0 gt tdi, just got it back from electrics guy with a list of faults. He cleaned the pins on the ECU and it seems to be starting ok, but has told me it needs a new brain as that's why it's not starting 1st time every time.

I'm leaving it with another guy who is going to clean throttle body to see if t helps.

The "throttle body" on a TDI is the "Shut off Flap" that helps stop then engine quicker when the engine is shut off. It is also used to create vacuum in the manifold for better EGR operation.

If the intake flap sticks closed, then yes, the engine will not want to start.
