engine damage from coolant empty?

Coolant was running empty. I filled it, but check engine light is still on. Could there be damage to engine?

sure could. you need a shop to do a leak down test to check the head gasket. the code needs to be diaged correctly to see what other issues you have. and obviously, the coolant leak must be repaired.
