Engine clip replacement

Ok I was looking on the back of the motor from the top and there was what looked like a tool so I pulled it off and it was cliped into a pipe that coolant runs thru. I tried putting this l shaped clip deal and it still leaks. So what is this l shaped clip deal and can I get a new one?
