Engine not starting

1996 mercury grand marquis... Engine starting problem. Starter is cranking and the engine is not turning over (turning on). I've checked the fuel line, I sprayed carb choke in the air valve, and slammed the gas tank with a hammer. Also the battery is good

first check for spark, then check for fuel pressure. The fuel needs to have a proper pressure and volume for your engine to run properly.
