What do you mean by "kick over" and "nothing"? Does the starter motor crank the engine? If so, hold the gas pedal down 1/4". You introduced a new problem by disconnecting the battery. The Engine Computer will have to relearn "minimum throttle" before it will know when to be in control of idle speed. Until then it will start hard and stall at stop signs unless you hold the gas pedal down a little.
