1996 ford taurus gl 3.0l vin code "U" runs fine at first then as she gets hot starts to surge, then she gives RPMs but not accelaration. Eventually you have to let her cool down in order to drive again. Idle RPMs are good, all sensors are reading good. Your thoughts. It does have a ticking from the wpump\TC area.

Could be caused by one of the following below

Oxygen sensor.
Catalytic converter.
Fuel injectors dirty/sticking.
Mass airflow sensor/Airflow meter.
Throttle position sensor.
Crankshaft position sensor
Knock sensor
Manifold absolute pressure sensor.
EGR Valve
Fuel pressure regulator leaking or defective fuel pump.
Fuel contamination.
Foul/defective spark plugs.
Open spark plug wires.
Ignition coil/Coil packs defective.
Incorrect ignition timing.
Cap and rotor.

Note:If it doesn't apply disregard it and keep testing.

Thanks rasmataz. Everything on your list is good, except for the cat converter. It's the only OBDII code:(P0420 & P0430) I just needed verification before I go cutting it out. I guess once the cat gets extermly hot it clogs up and doesn't let the exhaust flow through like it should, huh?
