Could be the starter, starter relay, transmission position switch and ignition switch assuming the battery condition and connections are good.

the battery is old and Ive had problems with it dying if i leave the radio on with the car off. But i don't see why the starter would go after i haven't had a single problem with it. And if the battery is bad which is a good possibility. why wouldn't the starter spin at all or even make a small cranking noise. Can a bad battery cause the it not to engage at all but let everything else work?

To finger the battery as the cause, have it load tested and go from there
