HEATER BLOWS COLD

1996 Ford Ranger mileage: 64,000. The heater is blowing cool air. I’m thinking about changing thermostat. Any ideas?
The heater control valve may be stuck closed or the vacuum hose is loose or not getting vacuum to open it.
