I overheated yesterday and now I am having difficulty starting and keeping the car running. I topped up coolant and checked all other fluids. I noticed steam coming from pipe before the cat. It smells sweet. There is also lots of blue smoke from exhaust until I reach normal temp. I bought the car for 300$ should I consider it a loss or is it feasible to repair?

At the advertised mileage and with the possibility of some internal engine damage, I would certainly think there might be a better vehicle to "hitch your wagon" to! The symptoms described strongly indicate cooling system failure and $300 is a fraction of what it might take to repair.
