Dodge Ram Headlights Problem

I am having problem with my headlights. About a year ago once in a while the headlights (only the headlights) and I would pull over to the side of the road, and wait for about 15 minutes and the lights would come on and everything would be fine for a period of time. Then about a month or so later it would happen again. Again I would pull over and wait and the lights would come on and things would be fine.
In the course of maybe one year it happened maybe 6-8 times and each time it would take longer for the lights to come on again. The last time it went out has been over 3 months ago and now I have no headlights. Everything else works fine.
What do you recommend as a process of elimination?
