96 Dodge, Wont start

So if the timing wasn't right it was because of the crankshaft sensor? I have #1 cylinder TDC when I set the rotor its pointing at the drivers side fire wall, nowhere near #1. That don't matter as long as I start firing order over the rotor? (I replaced the crankshaft sensor with a new one.) How do I set the Timing?

Timing is not adjustable. A series of pulses comes from the crankshaft position sensor, then the Engine Computer counts the number of degrees to wait, then it fires the ignition coil. By waiting a shorter period of time, it fires the coil sooner. That's how it "advances" the ignition timing. Turning the distributor just affects the synchronization of the injector pulses. If an injector fires too soon, the fuel just sits there in the intake manifold until the intake valve opens. As for the rotor, just put the number one spark plug wire in the tower on the cap that is closest to the rotor. Did you use a spacer on the end of the crankshaft position sensor? There should be either a thick paper spacer stuck to the end to set the critical air gap, or some aftermarket sensors have a thin plastic rib molded onto the end of it.
