Shifting lever (gear selector) is very hard to move-getting worse.

Disconnect the cable at the transmission, see how it feels afterward. This will isolate to a transmission concern, or a shift cable/column concern. Is there any looseness in the column, i.E. Can the steering wheel move when shaken indicating possible looseness in the tilt mechanism.
