High RPM, O2?

95 Saturn SL2. I could be driving for a time and the car is warmed up, come to a stop, put the car in N or P and the RPMs go up over 3000 for a second or two, then cut back to just below 1000 slowly. O2 sensor? The engine light is NOT on. Milage isn't great right now either.

That wouldn't be a o2 sensor causing that have you checked your bottom coolant temp sensor the one with two wire's going to it. Very common for those sensor's to go bad and cause a erratic idle overheating surging dieing overheating no start's. All kind's of thing's also check the connector going to it if it's corrded you will have to replace the connector. The sensor are only like 10. Let me know what you find.
