Pontiac Grand Am Compression Problem

Yesterday my car was driving completely fine. Then suddenly it began to bog majorly. My idle is very high, about 2 grand. There is a profound engine tick, my exhaust is backfiring, and my acceleration is horrible. I checked the vacuum lines, my car is a quart or two high on oil, and there's no CEL so it cant be a PT sensor. Anyone know what my problem could be?

first drain teh oil to the proper level, have the coolant system checked for leaks with pressure test. scan for codes and check fuel pressure. then check compression
