My car wants to start but it won't, and the lights dim when I try to start it. What could be the problem?

A near dead battery. Go have it tested to see if it is up to snuff. Cold weather kills marginal (works fine during warmer weather) batteries !

Fully charge the battery and have it load tested at a parts store. Most will do it for free. If the battery checks good, you need to have the starter checked to make sure it isn't drawing too many amps. Finally, if the battery is good, the starter is good and it runs for awhile, have the alternator checked to make sure it is recharging the battery properly.
