Our serena is idling very strange, its almost sounds like its reving up and down on its own. Its been in the garage for 3 weeks they changed the cat and exhaust but this hasn't resolved the issue and now they believe the timing chain may have slipped which is causing the problem.
They have said in order to resolve the issue they think they will need to remove the engine to gain access is this correct?

its a 2L petrol 126hp model.

thank you

I don't believe the diagnosis is correct.

Check the Idle Air Control valve for sticking. Seems the idling speed is too high causing the problem.

Thanks for your response.
Is this located somewhere near the throttle butterfly valve on the right hand side of the engine?

No, it should be under the central part of the intake manifold.

Are you referring to the Auxiliary Air Control (A.A.C.) Valve?
I've attached 2 images with what I think is its location and description.

Do you know if access is straight forward?

Thank you.
