Jeep Wrangler Transfer case Problem

My Jeep is making a whining noise in 1, 2, 3, and 5th gear but not in 4th gear. It is still drivable and I can switch gears easily. Could this whining be from low transmission fluid that have caused the bearings to go bad and if so how much would a repair like that cost?
