Poor acceleration

My 1995 hyundai excel sprint has no power in 1st gear, and low power overall. We have replaced the timing belt with no improvement so took the car to a mechanic he said it was the airflow meter so we replaced that, now we have rough idle and very poor acceleration especially on hills and from standing. We also have a sort of burnt smell in the car.
