When I bought my 95 Passport V6 the previous owner failed to tell me the oil cover gasket was leaking. Its visible in the front lower posrtion of the engine near the Idle Arm pulley area, it looks like the bottom left and right edges of the gasket where it meets the engine are where a small amount of oil is visible. I am waiting to see if the guy I bought it from is going to honor promise to fix it end of April. I check my fluids often and so far the oil hasnt shown low at all despite the leak. Just recently (last couple wks) I noticied that the engine has less power and when I am slowly accelerating from zero, by the time the speedometer reaches 20 MPH (or just a bit higher) the RPMS quickly climb past 2K and is almost at 3K by the time it reaches 30MPH. Then it seems to drop out. What could cause this and how can I cheaply and easily fix it? My friend is going to do a compression check today and tune up (says he check codes but I dont think my car has that capability?), Does the 1995 Passport LX V6 all wheel drive automatic have a distributor cap or rotor? Also can he easily access the timing belt to inspect it to be sure the previous owner truly did replace it?

Check fuel pressure and back pressure from the cat converter.

Check the timing belt as well

No distributor is used. It is a Direct Ignition System.

The timing belt upper cover can be easily removed by taking off a few screws.
