1995 ford ranger with OBDII and 202,000 miles is C.A.R.B. certified. Check engine trouble code indicates catalytic converter is below threshold levels. While this is a California truck, it will be registered in Washington state and never go back to CA again. Will a 49 state converter clear the check engine light? Does the converter have to be a California converter?

I realize there arre other things to cause the 420 code. I am in the process of eliminating each one, and this is the research process. It may be all I have to do is add some injector cleaner to the fuel, which would be the cheap and easiest. I have not had a chance to check the oxy sensors yet. I just purchased the vehicle this last Saturday afternoon and am trying to get it ready for emissions testing for registration purposes. It has been recently professionally tuned up (new plugs, wires, etc) according to the reciepts left in the vehicle, so those issues are less likely, though not impossible. Just trying to cover the bases without throwing parts at it.
