Engine shuts off when the air cleaner is on

My truck would run until I put the air cleaner on then it would quit running and not restart for about 4 hours. Today I replaced the breather that comes out of the valve cover and hooks up to the air cleaner. And took out the air filter because it was shot. Now it is running really good. If that breather was clogged up that bad could it shut down my truck like that? Worried its going to leave me stranded. Maybe a sensor was saying shut down don't know. When it shut down I had no spark at all.

My question is, what gives the ignition coil the pulse? I have 12v on the the one side of the harness that plugs into the ignition coil the other side is supposed to flash a pulse. But it wont when the truck shuts off. Checked that wire all the way to the ECM. Please help. I found an ECM at a wrecking yard for $75.00. Dodge said they wont program it to my VIN. Do I need that our just buy and plug in?

Good evening,

First of all the ECM does control spark. If the negative side of the coil is not flashing, before replacing the ECM, check the distributor pick up coil in the distributor. The resistance should be 800-1600 ohms.

If it is, then it is the ECM. The ECM is a plug and play as long as it is the same part number. There is no programming this module as OBD1 does not need to be programmed.

As far as shutting off, a clogged air filter will shut down the system.
