Ive got a 95 cadillac seville sts it wont shift out of first is there anything I should chec before just replaceing the transmisson

Is there a check engine light on, it is possible you have a broken shift solenoid. Look for a P029, or P094. Press off and warmer on the climate panel, after segments light it will display codes.
