The fuel pump fuse keeps blowing on my 1995 Cadillac Seville SLS when idling for a couple of minutes. I replaced the fuel pump relay (and of course the fuse each time it blows). What could be causing the fuse to blow?

I was told it could be the filter. Is that possible?

There is a larger than normal draw on that circuit. Based on the information you have provided I would suggest that you either have a severly restricted fuel filter or an overheating fuel pump. You could try the filter first and see if it helps, but don't be surprised if the pump is already damaged.

This is a different expert.
The fuel filter isn't going to blow a fuse and neither is the pump unless it is shorted out internally. My suggestion is to replace the oil pressure sender. It provides a redundant power feed for the fuel pump, powered by the same fuse and can short at specific oil pressures.

B.S. Wrenchtech, so your saying that a severly restricted fuel filter could not put to much strain on the pump and make it pull to many amps and blow a fuse?

Yes, I am. A severely restricted filter could elevate current draw slightly but never to the point of blowing a fuse. I see pumps seized solid with the relays jumped out and still don't come close to blowing a fuse, especially at idle like this one when voltage is at it's lowest.

I tried looking up the oil pressure sender but could only find a oil pressure switch. Is that the right part?
