VOLKSWAGEN JETTA HEATER PROBLEM

Ok I bought this car from a guy he messed up the wiring in the car. He first cut stereo wires to connect after market I bought the hanesss to fix correctly and ok thats got power to it. I now dont have power to turn on my heater in the car unless I connect direct power to it wont turn on trying to find why but cant. Is it a relay or wat? Someone please help. I put a new ignition switch thinking that would fix my problem but didnt. So I need to get power to the heater and get it fixed how can I check this?
